Hawaii Accommodation Guide

Hawaii Accommodation Guide

Hawaii accommodation is amongst the most extensive in the world with several hundred large international resorts and hotels, as well as many self catering condominium complexes and plenty of small inns and lodges. There's even a thriving bed and breakfast market and vacation rental homes. There's a hawaii accommodation property to please everyone - honeymooners, explorers, families and party-goers.

Oahu is the main Hawaiian island and is home to the international airport. Honolulu, the capital, is in the south of Oahu. Honolulu is flanked by Waikiki Beach, the world renowned beach playground and shopping centre, and Pearl Harbour the historical US Naval base. Almost all the hotels in Oahu are high rise and are based around Waikiki Beach. Surfing is fantastic in the north and west coasts of Oahu and the beaches on the east coast are popular as a quieter bed and breakfast and vacation rental destination. There's lots of sightseeing on offer in Oahu from 4WD sightseeing in the interior to Marine Parks and Sunset Cruises along the coast.

Kaua'i, about 70 miles to the north west of Oahu, is renowned for its spectacular rainforest and coastal scenery. Sheer cliffs, canyons and waterfalls merge with windswept white sand beaches. Kaua'i is the Garden Island of Hawaii. The island is small enough that wherever you choose to stay, you will be able to reach all the sights easily. Popular for sailing and helicopter tours and kayak and hiking adventures.

Maui is a 35 minute flight from Oahu. Maui has everything that Hawaii has to offer - great beaches, world championship golf resorts, vibrant tropical rainforest and the contrasting deserts and pastoral landscape of the interior. Maui's prize is glamour - the second most visited island after Oahu attracting the rich and famous.

The Big Island (Hawaii), is almost the size of all the other islands combined. It lies about 30 miles to the south of Maui, an hour flight from Oahu. The Big Island is dramatic, and nothing better captures this than its active volcanos. It is mostly a rural island, with few town centres and much smaller resort complexes than Oahu, Maui or Kauai. The Big Island is really the only island where you can't visit all the attractions based at one place. It takes about 3 hours to drive the 100 miles from Kona in the north to the islands main attraction in the south, Volcanos National Park.

Molokai and Lana'i are neighbouring islands about 50 miles to the south east of Oahu and clearly visible from West Maui. Neither island has large resorts and both are great destinations to get away from mass tourism, high rise buildings and traffic. Molokai retains the old way of Hawaiian life and has some breathtaking raw wilderness. Lana'i is a dry and mostly barren island with one small inland town, several golf resorts and the best scuba diving in Hawaii.
